Suppress This
—
2020 was a time of unprecedented voter suppression for people of color, with polling places dropping in places like Milwaukee from 180 to just 5 — forcing those that voted to wait in lines that were often hours long, all during a pandemic. No one should have to risk their lives to cast their vote. In order to help get these swing state voters mail-in ballots, we teamed up with grassroots organization Vote From Home to create the campaign “Suppress This,” getting absentee ballots in the hands of voters of color located in swing states.
The look and writing of the campaign is bold, not shying away from being political. The photography (shot by Darius Riley and Andrea Granera) holds a confident, don’t mess-with-me attitude. Considering all the anger and pain that was so concentrated during this time, we felt a need to create a campaign that directly addressed that outrage.
Beyond raising awareness, the campaign encouraged donations to get absentee ballot applications to at-risk voters, resulting in $1 million in donated media inventory, a 50% increase in daily contributions to Vote From Home 2020, over 1,000% growth in website traffic, and 1 million impressions on Instagram..
